Who was Real Sam Bahadur?

Sam Hormusji Framji Jamshedji Manekshaw was born in Amritsar, Punjab, on June 3, 1914. Hormizd Manekshaw’s father was a doctor from a Parsi family who had moved from Gujarat to Punjab.

Sam’s parents were the parents of six children, four males and two daughters. Manekshaw was chosen from the first batch of cadets. His class, dubbed “The Pioneers,” also included Smith Dun and Muhammad Musa Khan, future leaders of Burma and Pakistan, respectively.

He joined the British Army after completing his training in 1932, during World War II. After India’s independence, he joined the Indian Army, where he trained and prepared the army for the 1971 India-Pakistan war.

He was well-known for his remarkable leadership abilities and bravery. He was instrumental in ensuring the Indo-Pak war’s triumph. He also received the Padma Bhushan, the Military Cross, and the Padma Vibhushan.

During the 1971 Indo-Pak conflict, he was the Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army. He was the first Indian Army officer in Indian Army history to be appointed to the rank of Field Marshal.
