The Summer I Turned Pretty is the highly anticipated adaptation of Author Jenny Han’s (‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’) success novel of the same name (The Summer I Turned Pretty), which is presently live on Amazon Prime Video.
About the Series – The Summer I Turned Pretty :
The story, which is about love, family, and friendship, delves into these themes. Belly (Lola Tung) spends the summer at Cousins Beach with her brother Steven (Sean Kaufman) and her mother, Laurel (Jackie Chung), at Susannah’s (Rachel Blanchard) gorgeous, mansion-style beach house.
She’s engaged in a love triangle with the Fisher brothers, Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno), with whom she has spent her summers since she was a child. The Summer I Turned Pretty is a sentimental romance to the extreme. This is the summer when Belly blooms and everyone appears to take note of her. She does, however, want one person to take notice of her.
The protagonist is Belly, although other people are also explored. Susannah and Laurel’s bond was adorable. These two friends, who are almost polar opposites, understand themselves and have stood the test of time to remain great friends. Even Laurel’s ex-husband, John, confirms this when he tells her that they were always three individuals in the marriage. He, Laurel, and Susannah were there.
I truly liked this dynamic, and it was lovely to witness. Their friendship is the series’ most compelling storyline, as they both cope with Susannah’s cancer diagnosis.
The friendship between their children is particularly fascinating to observe. They have a lot of history and a strong friendship.
While Belly’s debutante trip is an important aspect of the show, it is one of many story elements that did not appear in the novel. In a little departure from the book, Belly makes her series debut, and she is able to form relationships with ladies outside of her typical circle.
Another appealing aspect is the soundtrack. Taylor Swift’s “That’s What Way I Loved You (Taylor’s Version),” “Lover, Cruel Summer,” and other songs are featured in the show. Olivia Rodrigo, Phoebe Bridgers, Saweetie, Chlöe, Frank Ocean, and Bleachers also have songs in the series.
Which team? Conrad or Jeremiah?
The Summer I Turned Pretty didn’t have a definitive finale. It’s unclear who she ends up with, but “The Summer I Turned Pretty” has been renewed for a second season, giving the brothers more chances to woo her. Book readers are generally aware of who she eventually marries, but there is still a side to choose.
Should You Watch It or Skip It – The Summer I Turned Pretty?
There is plenty of romance, cheesy romance, drama, love, and tear-jerking moments in The Summer I Turned Pretty. It’s beautifully written enough to keep you watching one more episode till you’re finished. The love triangle keeps you interested as you cheer for one of the brothers or Belly.
